If you’re sporting a brand new paycheck and you feel that money burning a hole in your pocket, it’s time to check out the most expensive car in the world. What’s that, you can’t afford it? Nonsense, they have payment plans and I’m sure your credit is good enough. It may help to know the price though, it’s quite steep.
Welcome to our list of the most wallet destroying cars currently in production. To make this list, each car must still be production as of 2015 and they must be street legal. Concept cars and those which are no longer manufactured are disqualified. That means the 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe that sold for $8.7 million in 1987 won’t be appearing here.
That also means that the recently solid 1962 Ferrari 260 GTO that just solid this year for $34.65 million won’t be showing up either. With the ground rules in place, let’s check out the top 10 most expensive cars you can buy right now.
The Top 10 Most Expensive Cars
I really don’t care how they spell spider wrong, this car is positively gorgeous! With a starting price at $845,000 though I think I’m just looking for now. This mid-engined plug-in hybrid is not only beautiful, but it’s also environmentally friendly. With an engine that runs on gasoline and electric power, you can actually drive up to 19 miles using only the electric engine on a full charge.
The V-8 gasoline engines gives you 608 horsepower which allows you to go from zero to sixty-two miles per hour in a blazing 2.5 seconds.
9 – The Hennessy Venom GT
Now this is more within my price range. At a starting price of $1,100,000 this 2013 supercar is also a convertible. The branch of the company that manufactures it is based out of Sealy, Texas and they claim that their car set a Guinness World Book record by going from zero to 186 miles per hour in just over thirteen seconds!
The company has plans to build a total of 29 copies of the car. As of December 2013, eleven had been sold around the world with five in the United States. The design of the car is based on the Lotus Elise roadster and Exige coupe model.
8 – The Pagani Huayra
Pagani truly outdid themselves with this mid-engined sports car. It was named “Hypercar of the Year 2012” by Top Gear Magazine. It uses a twin-turbo V12 engine developed by Mercedes-AMG exclusively for the Huayra. With a top speed of 231 miles per hour, it’s no slouch in that department either.
The name comes from the “God of the winds” in Quechua language. Apparently the deity is the only one who can afford it because it runs at a starting price of $1,300,000
7 – The McLaren P1
This limited production beauty is a plug-in hybrid supercar made by the British manufacturer McLaren Automotive. The original concept car was shown at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. As of October 2013, deliveries of the final product were being made to people who could afford it in the U.K.
With a strong combination of hybrid power and Formula 1 technology, this car was seen as the successor to the McLaren F1. It has a 3.8-Liter twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine. There is also an electric motor which is power by a 324-cell lithium-ion high density battery pack.
Ready for the price? $1,350,000.
6 – The Koenigsegg Agera R
This gorgeous piece of manufacturing can go from zero to sixty miles per hour in a blazing 2.8 seconds with a maximum speed of 260 mph. The funny part about this car is that the company limits the maximum speed to 235 miles per hour to make it street legal.
For the full power of the car, you’ll need to sign a waiver at which point the company will disable that limiter. All I know is that my wallet’s limiter isn’t budging on this one. If you’d like a piece of the buy, it’s going to be $1,600,000.
5 – The Lamborghini Reventon
Take a good long look at the most powerful and costly vehicle that the Italian manufacturer Lamborghini has ever built. With the ability to hit 60 miles per hour within 3.3 seconds. The top speed we’re looking at here is 211 miles per hour. It originally debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
According to the company’s press release, the sharp design of the exterior was designed by “the fastest airplanes.” As is tradition, the car is also named after a fighting bull of the same name. All of this can be yours for the easy to pay price of $1,600,000
4 – The Aston Martin One-77
As the name suggests, only 77 of these were manufactured. It was first revealed at the 2008 Paris Road Show but they kept the car beneath a Savile Row tailored skirt, those teases. The chassis on this beauty is a full carbon fiber monocoque handcrafted aluminum body.
With a top speed of 220 miles per hour and a price tag of $1,850,000, this is something even James Bond would blush at.
3 – The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse
This one is selling fast despite the fact that it’s sporting a price of $2,500,000. Out of the 450 planned to be made, 400 have already been sold since 2005. Bugatti claims it is the fastest roadster with 1,200 horsepower. Not much else to say about this beauty, it’s quite the looker.
2 – The 2013 W Motors Lykan Hypersport
This is the first supercar to be manufactured in the middle east and it’s quite the debut. Developed by W Motors, it was first unveiled at the 2013 Qatar Motor Show. Three have been sold, and one remains to be purchased. If your interested, go ahead and call the bank because you’ll be needing to withdraw $3,400,000.
1 – The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster
And here we have it ladies and gentlemen, the most expensive car in the world. This positively stunning work of moving art can be yours for the reasonable price of $4,500,000. Don’t scoff just yet though, it can hit sixty miles per hour in a mere 2.9 seconds and it’s equipped with a 12-cylinder engine that puts out 750 horsepower.
Lamborghini says they only plan to make nine copies of the car in 2014 but with a top speed of 221 mph and a lightweight design, it sounds like it’s worth every penny.
