1 – Alfa Romeo
This logo, also known as “the badge” is meant to incorporate emblems from fifth century Italy. It was first designed by an Italian draughtsman in 1910 by the name of Romano Cattaneo. On the right is the Biscione which is the emblem of the House of Visconti who ruled Milan in the 14th century.
The left is a red cross when is the emblem of the city of Milan itself. Finally, the serpent in the logo is swallowing a Moor.
2 – Ferrari
The story of the logo was told by Enzo Ferrari once and it went like this:
“The horse was painted on the fuselage of the fighter plane of Francesco Baracca — a heroic airman of the first world war. In ’23, I met count Enrico Baracca, the hero’s father, and then his mother, countess Paulina, who said to me one day, ‘Ferrari, put my son’s prancing horse on your cars. It will bring you good luck’. The horse was, and still is, black, and I added the canary yellow background which is the colour of Modena.”
Today the logo is stilled used to great effect. The symbol’s true meaning is something many people may not know, but regardless the horse is a strong symbol of speed and power.
3 – Lamborghini
All of the cars manufactured by this brand are named after bullfighters. This is due in part to the founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini. In 1962 he visited the ranch of Don Eduardo Miura who was a major breeder of Spanish fighting bulls. Being a Taurus himself, he decided to make a raging bull the emblem of his company.
4 – Maserati
This company was started by five brothers by the name of Alfrieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto. The unique logo’s trident shape is based on the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna’s Plazza Maggiore. In 1920 one of the brothers used the symbol in the logo after his family friend Marquis Diego de Sterlich suggested it. The logo stayed because it represents the Roman God Neptune’s strength and vigor.
